Should I buy the Marine Grade or the Land Grade? |

Some people prefer the: Land type of coral because the form of calcium has more of an acid neutralizing affect in the stomach (like Tums) before it is absorbed, and the added magnesium oxide can have a laxative effect like milk of magnesia. Magnesium oxide is left behind in a glass of water if you empty one of our capsules into it and stir. It has to be broken down in digestion. On the other hand, the Marine type of coral has a different form of calcium due to the different processing method. It has less of an effect on the stomach acid, and completely dissolves in a glass of water immediately (no magnesium oxide). Both types are fully assimilated and action takes place in the blood, enzymes, nerves, bones, etc. Land type can help with stomach hyperacidity and is recommended to be taken with a meal. Marine grade is better if you suffer from low stomach acid and can be taken with a meal or on an empty stomach. Another consideration is this: Land harvested coral is approx 37.5% calcium, so if you take 1800 mg Land (3 capsules) @ 37.5% that is 675 mg calcium. Marine harvested coral is approx 20% calcium, therefore 2100 mg Marine (3 capsules) @ 20% is 420 mg calcium. (This is on the label.) So another thing that may influence people is how many milligrams of calcium they want to ingest, and which combination of capsules will give them that amount (not everyone takes 3 per day). Consider other supplements you may be taking, for example a multi-vitamin containing calcium, and the total amount of calcium overall combined. Consider also the amount of calcium rich foods you eat. The recommended daily allowance or RDA for calcium is 1,000 mg for adults; or 1,000 mg for men and 1,200 mg for women over 50 years of age. Other studies have concluded that 1,500 - 2,000 mg per day is optimal. However, you can take too much calcium (hypercalcemia), so don't go crazy with it! According to the Office of Dietary Supplements - National Institutes of Health, calcium is best absorbed in amounts of less than 500 mg at a time. One capsule of our Land grade Coral Calcium contains approximately 225 mg calcium. One capsule of our Marine grade Coral calcium contains approximately 140 mg calcium. Our Land Grade Coral Calcium and Marine Grade Coral Calcium both contain the necessary co-factors including trace minerals and vitamin D-3 for optimal absorption. |
