Miss Patty has been a Brevard County resident for the past 18 years. She studied the science of Nutrition at Florida State University, and has been studying the properties of herbs for the past 10 years. Miss Patty has completed a comprehensive course on herbs, earning a Certificate in Herbal Studies from Kathleen Gould, a member of the American Herbalists Guild. She is also a student of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and enjoys Yoga and Qi Gong.
I would like to point out that at this time, studying herbs with a member of the American Herbalists Guild is indeed a privilege, as these folks have completed extensive requirements in order to become a member. It should be noted that while there are many people calling themselves Herbalists, Certified Herbalists, etc., there is no legal recognition in the United States for these titles. The State of Florida does not even recognize Naturopaths or Naturopathic Physicians. This is not to say that these people are not qualified to offer sound advice on health issues. However, one should be aware of this and consider the source of education, credentials, and so on.
Miss Patty completed a one year internship at The Herb Corner which is located at 808 Strawbridge Avenue in Melbourne. The Herb Corner has an extensive selection of bulk herbs available for sale. Stop by and enjoy a cup of herbal tea with the owner, Cecelia Avitabile. Many interesting classes are held at the store. Kathleen Gould, the former owner of The Herb Corner, has moved to Lake City where she opened The Southeastern Center for Herbal Studies. There she will continue to share her knowledge of herbs through her certification course and other cool programs.
